[Movie Review] Dolphin Tale

Tuesday, September 27, 2011

Hi Huneybees,

All thanks to F*** Magazine, I got to the movie, Dolphin Tale, presented by Warner Brothers. It's been a while since there's a movie about an animal and its relationship with a human. The last I can remember is Free Willy.

Synopsis:
Dolphin Tale is inspired by the amazing true story of a brave dolphin called Winter and the compassionate people who banded together to save her life.
Swimming free, a young dolphin is caught in a crab trap, severely damaging her tail. She is rescued and transported to the Clearwater Marine Hospital, where she is named Winter. But her fight for survival has just begun.
Losing her tail may cost Winter her life. It will take the expertise of a dedicated marine biologist, the ingenuity of a brilliant prosthetics doctor, and the unwavering devotion of a young boy to bring about a groundbreaking miracle that might not only save Winter but could also help thousands of people around the world.
The film stars Harry Connick, Jr. as Dr. Clay Haskett, who runs the Clearwater Marine Hospital; Ashley Judd as Lorraine Nelson, a single mother; Nathan Gamble as her son, Sawyer, who frees Winter from the trap and forms a unique connection with the dolphin; Cozi Zuehlsdorff as Hazel, Clay’s daughter, who befriends Sawyer; Kris Kristofferson as Clay’s father, Reed; and Oscar® winner Morgan Freeman (“Million Dollar Baby”) as Dr. Cameron McCarthy, who takes on the seemingly impossible task of crafting a prosthetic tail for Winter.

Dolphin Tale was filmed on location in Florida, including Winter’s home at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium, whose motto is “Rescue, Rehabilitate and Return.”

The movie touched my heart deeply. It touches hearts and Winter was definitely one of the main reason. She had her tail cut off and she pressed on to continue surviving by finding our ways to swim. Her determination embarrasses me. I tend to give things up easily, when stressed I get into a fit, but Winter made me realize sometimes, even an animal is fighting to live on, why am I giving up on such a little set back?!

Nathan Gamble and Cozi Zuehlsdorff are 2 great child actors. They were natural, fun and I love the connection they had between each other and also with Winter. These 3 lead characters made me cry most part of the movie. It's been a while since I cried while watching a movie.

Dolphin Tale is one heartwarming, fun adventure movie about the healing bonds of family, both human and animal. Definitely a movie for all genders and all ages. Mummies and Daddies, this will be a great movie to teach the kids about compassion and love!

I rate the movie 5 out of 5 popcorns!

You can check out more about the movie at the official website and while you are at it, check out live stream webcam videos of Winter at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium by clicking on the "Winter Webcam" tab. And also, to know more about the Aquarium, here is their website. It will be great if everyone can do a little part for these animals......

No, I didn't PS this photo. This is how Winter looks like without her prosthetic tail.

Winter, who plays herself in Dolphin Tale, today serves as a symbol of courage and hope to millions of people - especially those facing their own physical challenges - be touched by her remarkable story of recovery and rehabilitation.
