18 new labels at PARCO next NEXT

PARCO next Next at Millenia Walk has unveiled their latest intake of 18 new local designers - 20:TWOTHREE, 2HB, alexandria chen, ANGELIA, ash, Episene,evenodd, FOON FOONO, Foreword, Kae Hana, LION EARL, MASH-UP, Mils, QUAINTHOOD, RÊVASSEUR, Saloni Rathor, Wil.Liam Atelier and WSDM.
"We want to put forward a good mix of designers, covering a broad range. Each year that we have done this project, we discover new design talents who may have the means to launch their own labels but who, with the right opportunities and nurturing, have what it takes to succeed. The industry can be a hard one to break into, but to secure the future of Singapore fashion, we need to pave the way for fresh and new talent to0 come on board and flourish." --- Mr David Wang, Chairman of AFF Singapore Committee

There are a collection of male and female (sometimes unisex) clothings and accessories and they are already the 3rd batch of designers to be introduced. Remember the photo I took with a bunch of designers at the BLUEPRINT event earlier on? Well, they are some of them and here are more....


20:TWOTHREE
CousinsGenevieve and Jamie Goh present 20:TWOTHREE, an androgynous fashionlabel for both men and women, that they have developed with a cheekydisregard for taught rules.

Theduo’s first foray into fashion started in 2008 with a small onlinestore that sold apparel, before they decided to give designing a go.Neither has formal fashion schooling but they experiment instead tochurn out creations that have evolved from their own interpretationsand definitions of fashion design.

Whatresults are timeless shapes and a clever play with geometry anddraping that transcend genders and body proportions.

2HB 

Theidea for the name 2HB came about when designer Rick Hung wassketching out a design using a 2HB pencil - the “middle ground”in pencil grading.

Extendingthis idea into his label, Hung similarly hopes to court lovers ofpractical fashion who embrace wearability, but without any compromiseon style.

 

Lookout for a collection of smart threads that span everyday wear toformal wear, always with a dash of attitude to reflect the wearer’spersonality.


alexandriachen 

AlexandriaChen infuses the colours, forms, lines and textures of modern artinto the designs of her eponymouscasual womenswear label.

Theintegration of art and fashion yields elegant pieces that take thewearer from day to night effortlessly. Seeking to cultivateconfidence in the wearer, Chen designs dressy, form-fitting piecesthat will flatter any body shape.



ANGELIA 

SistersZen and Angela Tan are behind ANGELIA’s range of dresses. The labelexudes an air of youth and hopes to captivate modern, career-mindedwomen seeking a quick style fix.

Thedesigns have sleek, streamlined shapes, clean lines and a minimalistsensibility. Designer Zen Tan, studied Fashion Design in LASALLECollege of the Arts and was a finalist for the Singapore YoungFashion Designer Contest in 2005.



ash 
Helmedby former professional secretary Alison Ash Leeandpersonal shopper Jack Joash Lim, ash interprets the myriadexperiences of love in a woman’s life played out through fashion. Itsrange of simple yet elegant work wear target women who are modern andindependent but hold on to their love of everything feminine.

Eachpiece comes from the heart, and boastsinterestingdetails and unconventional fabric combinations that flatter thepetite Asian frame.



Episene 

BehindEpisene is designer Lee Yun Ting, who draws influence for her designsfrom art, history and philosophy to bring elements of the past andpresent together.

Afirm advocate of individualism and expression, Lee designs piecesthat are strong, bold and compelling.
Thepieces in her womenswear collection are intentionally androgynous,and each has a different twist - such as a tailored jacket withdraping detail - that allows the wearer to express her uniquepersonality.

evenodd 

Stylist,photographer and a self-taught designer, Samuel Wong, heads menswearlabel evenodd. Hispieces are inspired by the prim and proper style of gentlemen fromdays of yore and reinterpreted with a contemporary twist. Wong,with his eye for detail, pays particular attention to the cut andconstruction of his garments. He hand-picks all the materials andtrimmings, down to the buttons used.

Barelya year old, evenodd has already made waves - Wong was invited toshowcaseat Singapore’s inaugural Men’s Fashion Week 2011 and has dressedcelebrities that include actor Nat Ho. His label has also beenfeatured in one of Japan’s leading fashion blogs, TokyoDandy.com,and several Singapore publications.



FOON FOONO 

FOONFOONO is a leather accessory label by Singapore-based visual artistFoon. Inspiredby Takashi Murakami's collaboration with Louis Vuitton, FOON presentsa line of leather bags, wallets and key rings that are as beautifulas they are functional.

FOONstrives to apply the same philosophy he adopts in his artwork to hislabel, FOON FOONO: be simple, yet provocative. Foon specializes indigital fine art and his artwork has been featured in several art anddesign publications including Epicure, Switch, Space and BlueprintAsia. Inthe last seven years, he has participated in various art exhibitionsaround the world, including Burning Man Art Festival. This is hisfirst foray into the fashion industry.



Foreword 

Foreword,a range of ready-to-wear womenswear and accessories, is the creationof fashion marketing graduate Evelyn Ang and IT professional PearlyWee.

Thedesigns have a predominant focus on loose, relaxed silhouettes madewith light fabrics and offer ease of style for active women on thego. Forewordencourages chic, fuss-free elegance and aims to inspire confidence intheir consumers through their carefully constructed collection. 



Kae Hana 

KaeHana is a ready-to-wear womenswear label with a focus on exclusiveprints produced by the designer herself as well as other local fineartists. She hasalways been intrigued by prints and how they communicate with people.As a designer, shederivesinspiration from organic things in her surroundings, and objects thatare both in and out of place. Thepieces in her collection subtly pair art and style while making itsuitable for daily wear.

LION EARL 

Foundedby fashion design graduate Lionel Low & architectureundergraduate and freelance designer Hariz Lim – LION EARLchallenges the boundaries of both fashion and the arts. 

Theirdesigns draw from both nature and the urban jungle and are inspiredby various art disciplines, including painting and architecture.These influences are subtly reflected in the design of each piece,resulting in a varied collection ranging from organic, sensualdresses to cutting-edge, structured jackets.

MASH-UP 

MASH-UPis an independent, offbeat street-wear label inspired by everythingfrom ethnic heritage and pop culture to cinematography. 

Thebrainchild of LASALLE College of the Artsfashiongraduates Daniela Monasterios Tan, Nathanael Tan and ShafAmis’aabudin, MASH-UP is a manifestation of their common love formusic, partying and fashion. Thelabel produces clothing and accessories that incorporate recycledmaterials and do-it-yourself craft techniques such as embroidery andbeading in neon colours, to yield products that are unusual and fun.

Mils 

Fashiondesign graduate from LASALLE College of The Arts, Sunny Lim, is thedesigner behind Mils, a luxury menswear label targeted at creativeand free-spirited men. Inspiredby art and philosophy, Lim revives the staples in a man’s wardrobewith details such as pleating, draping and embellishments, givingalternative options for men who want to look sharp and bold.




QUAINTHOOD 

QUAINTHOODis a contemporary fashion label for women by Temasek Design Schoolgraduate and former air stewardess, Joy Ng. Thelabel is not just about fashion, it is a lifestyle, attitude, andexpression — a voice for the contrary.

Thepieces blend a street-wear edge with chic sensibilities, resulting inlooks that are fresh and yet hold a certain dark undertone. Classicshirts and dresses are redefined by Ng’s sharp take on shapes andtailored cuts.




RÊVASSEUR 

RÊVASSEUR, which means ‘daydreamer’ in French, is a mix of whimsical and avant garde designs with strong silhouettesand a dash of texture and print aiming to put the fun back intofashion and encourages its wearers to experiment. 

Thelabel was established by Gilda Su while she was studying at Japan’sBunka Fashion College in 2005, before she went on to complete adegree at Parsons the New School of Design. Her thesis collection wasdisplayed at Saks Fifth Avenue in New York City, as well as Parsons’Annual Benefit Gala.




Saloni Rathor 

HelmingSaloni Rathor, a womenswear label offering ready-to-wear pieces forboth day and night, is Saloni Shrestha, a self-taught designerhailing from the Himalayas. 

Inspiredby the rich culture and intricate art of the east, each collectiondelicately infuses Asian aesthetics into the modern world of fashionthrough details such as beading and prints. It adds distinctivetouches to simple, timeless designs.




Wil.LiaM Atelier 

Createdby William Chong, Wil.LiaM Atelier is a label for the polishedcorporate woman. Inspiredby architecture, he juxtaposes the clean lines of tailoring withAsian elements such as wrap details and asymmetrical hemlines.

Chong’seye for detail and his sensitivity towards the technicalities ofdesign, sees him paying particularattentionto the workmanship and tailoring of every piece.



WSDM 

WSDM(WeSeekDiscernMent)is a premium streetwear concept label founded by husband-and-wifeteam, Abel Lim and Riane Toh. WSDMproduces simple, classic pieces with an unconventional twist such asleather trims on an otherwise plain button-down shirt.

Thelabel seeks to fill the gap in the local menswear fashion scene andappeals to men who appreciate basics with subtle details.

Sinceits inception, the PARCO next NEXT fashion incubator project hashelped spur the success of several of its designers. They include:
  • Fuschia Lane: Designer Vivienne Lin, who is behind this luxury Chinoiserie label, launched her own standalone boutique after one year with PARCO next NEXT. She caters to customers from as far away as Sweden.
  • L’ILE AUX ASHBY: Stocked in various multi-label stores. Earlier this year, designer Rayson Tan was also invited to Born Designers 2012, a premium design and luxury lifestyle trade show in France.
  • MAE PANG: Attracted the interest of buyers around the region, including Hong Kong. Her creations even caught the eye of London fashion blogger, Susie of Style Bubble, who raved about the versatility and interesting design of her pieces.
  • max.tan: Award-winning designer Max Tan was invited to showcase his work at the Modefabriek in Amsterdam. This month, he was named as one of Style: Singapore’s “Top 20 Asian Designers to Know Now”. Surface Asia also called him one of the “hottest new names to look out for in fashion”. In addition, his Spring/Summer 2011 collection featured in Vogue Nippon. He recently launched a diffusion line - Liquid by max.tan.
  • PAULINE.NING: Designer Pauline Lim was also named as one of Style: Singapore’s “Top 20 Asian Designers to Know Now” this month. Her label is now stocked at various multi-label stores. Lim also recently launched her own e-commerce store.
  • SUNDAYS: Designer Larry Lam was named Best Young Fashion Designer of the Year by JUICE Magazine, and has since expanded into several multi-label stores and department stores.
  • Yumumu: Designer Lu Yilin was recently selected to do a single-season internship with London-based Scottish designer Christopher Kane. Kane, who was named New Designer of the Year at the British Fashion Awards in 2007, has his own label and has collaborated with the likes of Versace.
